Kofi Annan’s words announcing a deal that will (hopefully) end the post-election crisis in Kenya were barely audible over the sound of applause in the newsroom here in Kampala. Now, leaders from both sides are speaking at a news conference and so many people here are crowded around the TV, (“Yes!” shouted one reporter, “A new Kenya!” shouted another. “They’re just plastic smiles,” another muttered as he walked away…) that I can barely see it.
